Declared Center for Information Assurance Education and Research

The Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences (GSCIS) is the declared center for information assurance (IA) education and research at Nova Southeastern University.

Its mission includes research, graduate education, and public outreach in the information assurance/security community. Specifically, it:

• Provides graduate education programs in information assurance/security for those interested in improving the protection of information resources.

• Conducts basic and applied research to enhance the security of information resources.

• Provides information and guidance to government, industry, non-profit organizations, and individuals who are attempting to solve information security problems.

• Serves as the primary NSU interface with the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) regarding education and training in IA and requirements and obligations regarding the university’s designation as a center of academic excellence in information assurance education.

• Coordinates the campus wide educational, research and policy activities related to IA

• Consolidates access to information on the academic programs and research in the discipline of information assurance/security.

On April 17, 2008, NSU was re-designated a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education for the academic years 2008-2013 by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). NSU first received this designation in March 2005 covering the period through March 2008.

The Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences has been a pioneer in online graduate education. It began offering online programs in 1983 and created the first electronic classroom in 1985. Since that time, it has developed other unique software tools to enhance the online learning environment.

Today, NSU is the nation's seventh largest, not-for-profit, independent university, with more than 28,000 students and 103,000 alumni; a sprawling, 300-acre Fort Lauderdale-Davie campus; and a presence in nine countries around the world.
